About Us

Zoe & Chris Hipwell would like to offer you a warm welcome to Hodgkinson's Hotel. We take great pride in creating an atmosphere where our guests feel at home. Our aim is to combine the best traditions of hospitality, gained from our long and varied background travelling around the world, with something we believe to be a unique setting, making your stay an experience not just a visit.

Our historic grade II listed hotel dates from 1770 when it was originally part of the larger New Inn built during the height of the Georgian spa era. Subsequently bought by wine merchant Job Hodgkinson in the 1830's, the large oval sign outside still bears his name and much of the ground floor interior remains intact from this time. Great care has been taken to restore the remainder of the building to its former Victorian splendor whilst satisfying the needs of the discerning traveller.

Hodgkinson's offers the best of home comforts in a wonderful setting full of character.

Hodgkinson's is a Grade 2 listed Victorian Hotel and Restaurant situated in Matlock Bath - a beautiful, historic spa village in Derwent Valley, Derbyshire (The Peak District, Northern England, UK).

By day, take in the many sites of Matlock Bath and the peak district, including the Heights of Abraham, limestone cliffs and caves, walks, cycling, nearby castles, manor houses and more.

By night, let us pamper you with the best of home cooked dishes freshly prepared with local ingredients, retire to the lounge for a drink by the fire or enjoy the warm of our friendly village with it¹s traditional English pubs and restaurants.

Many of the original details of this Grade II listed building have been carefully preserved. In keeping with the historic legacy of the Hodgkinson's each of the bedrooms are individually furnished with original antiques.
