Hodgkinsons Hotel & Restaurant
"A grand Georgian affair decorated with engaging eccentricity. Roaring fire downstairs and good seasonal menu in the restaurant. Perfect for a romantic break."
Roy Hattersley, The Guardian
Attractions in the village include the Heights of Abraham which is a self-contained park on top of a hill of the same name. On the opposite bank of the river Derwent stands High Tor, a sheer cliff which is very popular with climbers and walkers alike. The cable cars are close to the base of High Tor and serve the Heights of Abraham. Also in Matlock Bath are Gulliver's Kingdom theme park, the Peak District Mining Museum, the Life in a Lens Museum of Photography & Old Times and an aquarium. In autumn of each year, the "Venetian Nights" are held with illuminations along the river and illuminated boats, attracting thousands of visitors.
Perhaps best known as walking country, the Peak District National Park offers a spectacular variety of scenery and routes to be explored – from steep sided limestone dales to the dramatic high moorlands. There are several walks directly from the front door.
There is something for everyone – individuals, families and groups – whether you want a challenging hike or a short stroll.
The Peak District is not know for it's flats roads but with Carssington Water, High Peak, Tissington and Monsal trails, traffic free spectacular riding is on our door step without the infamous hills of the area.
The local area provides some of the most challenging and rewarding cycling in the country both on and off road.
